How Supply

Each Tablet Contains 250 mg metronidazole,10 Tablet per blister pack,10 blister with a leaflet in a box.

Pregnancy and breast feeding

FDA pregnancy category B ,it is also distributed into human breast milk.

Precautions

• Avoiding use of alcoholic beverages or other alcohol containingpreparations while taking and for at least 3 days after discontinuing this medication.
• Caution if dizziness or light-headedness occure.

Drug interactions

Inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine :Alcohol;Anticoagulant coumarin or indandione derivative;cimetidine;disulfiram;lithium;neurotoxic medication;Phenobarbital;phenytoin.

Dosage and Administration

Usual adult dose

• Antibacterial

– anaerobic infections:oral,7.5mg(base)/Kg/weight,up to maximum 1gr,every 6 hr for seven days or longer,

Usual adult prescription limit: up to maximum 4 gr daily.

– Bowl disease inflammatory:oral,500 mg ,4 times a day.

– Colitis,antibiotic-associated:oral,500 mg ,3 or 4 times a day.

– Gastritis, Helicobacter pyloria or ulcer duodenal Helicobacter pyloria associated: oral,500 mg ,3 times a day in conjunction with bismuth subcitrate and other oral antibiotic therapy.

Vaginosis bacterial: oral, 500 mg ,2 times a day for 7 days.

• Antiprotozoal:

– Amebiasis and Amebic liver abscess: oral,500  to 750 mg ,3 times a day for 5 to 10 days.

– Balantidiasis: oral , 750 mg ,3 times a day for 5 to 6 days.

– Giardiasis: oral,2 gr once a day for 3 days or 250 mg 3 times a day for 5 to 7 days.

-Trichomoniasis: oral, 2 single dose,1 gr two times a day for one day,375 mg two times a day for 7 days  or 250 mg 3 times a day for 5 to 7 days.

• Anthelmintic:

– Dracunculiasis: oral , 250 mg ,3 times a day for  10  days.

Usual pediatric dose

• Antibacterial

– anaerobic infections:oral,7.5mg(base)/Kg/weight, every 6 hr or 105mg(base)/Kg/weight

Every 8 hr.

• Antiprotozoal:

– Amebiasis: oral, 11.6 to 16.7 mg (base)/Kg/weight, 3 times a day for 10 days.

– Balantidiasis: oral, 11.6 to 16.7 mg (base)/Kg/weight, 3 times a day for 10 days.

– Giardiasis: oral,5 mg /Kg/weight 3 time a days for 5 to 7 days.

-Trichomoniasis: oral, 5 mg/Kg/weight up to a maximum of 250 mg 3 times a day for 10 days.

• Anthelmintic:

– Dracunculiasis: oral , 8.3mg/ Kg/weight up to a maximum 250 mg,3 times a day for  10  days.

Side effects

Those indicating need for medical attention:Peripheral neuropathy;seizures.

Those indicating need for medical attention only if they continue or are bothersome:CNS effects,gastrointestinal disturbance,change in taste sensation,dryness of mouth,unpleasant or sharp metallic taste

Store below 30˚c. Protect from Light and moisture. keep out of reach of children.
