Description

How Supplied:

Aspirin E.C. tablets are presented as 80 mg acetylsalicylic acid. 20 tablets per blister pack, 5 blisters with a leaflet in a box.

Category:

Indicated as a platelet aggregation inhibitor.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

It is not recommended to use this medicine during last trimester of pregnancy unless prescribed and monitored by physician.

Not recommended to use in breast feeding.

Precautions:

  • Regular visits to physician to check progress if long-term or high-dose therapy is prescribed
  • Importance of immediately reporting to physician symptoms of edema, gastrointestinal bleeding or ulceration, cardiovascular events, unusual weight gain, or skin rash
  • Gastrointestinal: Gastric ulceration and bleeding may occur; avoid use in active peptic ulcer disease
  • Take with food and a full glass of water
  • Bleeding disorders: Use with caution in patients with platelet and bleeding disorders
  • Ethanol use: Heavy ethanol use (>3 drinks/day) can increase bleeding risks
  • Hepatic impairment: Avoid use in severe hepatic failure
  • Gastrointestinal disease: Use with caution in patients with erosive gastritis. Avoid use in patients with active peptic ulcer disease
  • ASA not recommended in children associated with development Reye’s syndrome

Drug Interactions:

Inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medication: Acetaminophen; Acidifiers, urinary such as Ammonium chloride, Ascorbic acid, Potassium or Sodium phosphate; Alcohol or Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs; Alkalizers, urinary such as Carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, Citrates, Sodium bicarbonate; Anticoagulants, Coumarin or Indandione-derivative, Heparin; Thrombolytic agent such as Alteplase, Anistreplase, Urokinase; Antidiabetic agents, oral or Insulin; Cefamandole; Cefoperazone; Cefotetan; Plicamycin; Valproic acid; Methotrexate; Vancomycin; platelet aggregation inhibitors; Probenecid; Sulfinpyrazone.

Dosage and Administration:

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Usual adult and adolescent dose:

  • Platelet aggregation inhibitor: Oral, 75 to 325 mg a day with the following exceptions ischemic attacks, transient, in males.

Side Effects:

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet.

Those indicating need for medical attention:

Incidence less frequent or rare:

Anaphylactoid reaction, anemia, hemolytic; bronchospastic allergic reaction; dermatitis, allergic gastrointestinal ulceration, possibly with bleeding

Those indicating need for medical attention only if they continue or are bothersome:

Incidence more frequent with Aspirin:

Gastrointestinal irritation, mild stomach pain, heartburn or indigestion, nausea with or without vomiting.

Storage:

Store below 30ºC. Protect from light and moisture.

Keep out of the reach of children.
